SingleStore Now 2024: Natively Engineered for AI

overviewOverview

What does it mean to have a database that’s natively engineered for the AI revolution? That was the question answered by Raj Verma, CEO of SingleStore in his keynote that opened the conference. Raj looks back on his five years at the helm of the company, and considers how every milestone in SingleStore’s history has been about bringing greater and greater levels of simplicity to our user community.

In this talk, Raj explains why simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication, how SingleStore is delivering on that promise, where we currently stand in the adoption of AI and how to prepare for the next phase of its evolution.

about-the-speakerAbout the speaker

Raj Verma is the Chief Executive Officer of SingleStore. With over 25 years of experience in the tech industry, Raj has worked with clients across multiple industries and organizations, from start-ups to enterprise level.

Raj is also the host of the “Into the Singleverse” podcast and the author of “Time Is Now: A Journey to Demystifying AI.” The book interweaves insights from his personal life, career journey and experiences in the tech industry to unveil how humans can use AI ethically to amplify not only our intelligence, but also our actions and choices.

key-takeawaysKey takeaways

  1. Complexity does not scale. Multiple operational data stores create many potential points of failure, a risk that increases as you scale to the enterprise level.
  2. SingleStore has always had simplicity as a mantra. Raj reviews the many steps we’ve taken to simplify the data estate, take the waste out and combine many workloads into a few. These include product and feature milestones — as well as financial investments — we’ve made to keep innovating while de-risking the platform for you.
  3. We announced four new platform features including scheduled jobs, cloud functions, GPU notebooks and dash apps.
  4. We continue to integrate with more partners. A recent example is our integration with Snowflake, combining SingleStore's real-time capabilities with Snowflake's data lake functionality.
  5. In breaking news, we announced our acquisition of the Australia-based data integration platform, BryteFlow, further expanding our capacity to ingest data from a wide range of sources like SAP, Oracle, Salesforce and more. By integrating BryteFlow’s capabilities into our core product to complement our existing functionality, we are creating an experience known as SingleConnect. The arrival of SingleConnect makes it faster and easier to tap into an array of enterprise data sources, tackle diverse and challenging workloads, and deliver top-notch experiences for your own customers.
  6. We are in year two of the AI adoption. Right now, this time is akin to the early internet, but AI will become much more interesting when we have the applications to embed it in our daily lives.
  7. The next wave of AI will see data being driven by AI rather than vice versa. Raj closed by noting that if you think you can envision all the possibilities, you’re not thinking big enough.
