SingleStore Launches Operator for Kubernetes

New tool makes it easy to deploy and manage SingleStore with Red Hat OpenShift and other Kubernetes distributions

BOSTON, MA – RED HAT SUMMIT – May 8, 2019 - SingleStore, The Single Database for All Data-Intensive Applications for operational analytics and cloud-native applications, today introduced a new tool at Red Hat Summit 2019 that makes it easy to orchestrate SingleStore with Kubernetes. The SingleStore Kubernetes Operator connects SingleStoreDB On-Premises to Red Hat OpenShift and other Kubernetes distributions, simplifying the deployment, management, and upgrade of our popular relational database. With this release, SingleStore has achieved Red Hat OpenShift Operator Certification, offering customers confidence that SingleStore can deliver tested and validated Kubernetes applications on OpenShift, the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform.

As the adoption of Kubernetes has grown, so too has the need for the container platform to support complex stateful systems, such as databases. Kubernetes operators make it possible for IT teams to package, deploy, and manage data infrastructure with Kubernetes. Operators extend the functionality of Kubernetes, bringing automation to more complex applications. The SingleStore Kubernetes Operator allows developers to use an elastically-scalable, enterprise-class operational database alongside the rest of their containerized applications.

"Containers have fundamentally transformed how we deploy and manage stateless applications, and operators now unlock that same level of flexibility and scale to operational data infrastructure," said Nikita Shamgunov, CEO of SingleStore. "Becoming a Red Hat certified partner allows us to deliver our next generation, distributed relational database "as a service" across any public or private cloud."

“In working with SingleStore in the Red Hat OpenShift Operator Certification we are thrilled that SingleStore Operator is available on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, the most comprehensive Kubernetes platform,” said Julio Tapia, director, Cloud Platforms Partners Ecosystem, Red Hat. “Kubernetes Operators are appealing because they help encode the human operational logic normally required to manage services running on a Kubernetes-native application and aim to make day-to-day operations easier. By providing Operators on Red Hat OpenShift, users can begin experiencing the next level of benefits from a Kubernetes-native infrastructure, with services designed to ‘just work’ across any cloud where Kubernetes runs.”

The SingleStore Kubernetes Operator will allow customers to deploy and scale SingleStore clusters instantly. Customers will be able to define the cluster size, assign memory and CPUs, set a redundancy level, and choose a storage size.
